Smart Restaurant Uniforms Make Employees Happy

It’s a given that the dining the hospitality industry in our city isn’t the highest paying career niche. Surprisingly however, a quick chat with some successful applicants who had found jobs through Misorjobs.com revealed that those working in hotels and restaurants seemed happier than their contemporaries working in manufacturing companies and offices.

I asked the new employees in the hotel and restaurant field what made them happy. Many said they simply loved having to serve and interact with people. Curiously, two waiters said they liked their jobs because of their uniforms. Some found this reply mildly amusing but I see their point.

Anyone would love to work for a company where they get to wear sleek, smart and attractive uniforms. In a sense, uniforms just don’t convey the identity of a business, they also add to the esteem and self-worth of the members of an organization. This might seem like a small matter but in my opinion, hotel and restaurant uniforms contribute to employee retention.

That just means that our employers in the food and service industry should take even greater pains at ensuring they have great employee uniforms. This goes well beyond getting the right, attractive look. Employers need to make sure their staff uniforms are also built to withstand the rigors of restaurant work. The best ones are moisture, dirt and wrinkle resistant so staff can look clean and dapper morning, noon and night.
